what a wonderfull day to be alive and to help other people. i feel it is important to give back everyday to the people that are around me. To be able to do a good turn for someone and make them smile or forget their troubles just for awhile.

Today I learned a neighbour is having surgery today she is elderly and such a wonderfull soul. So ready to deliver later a meal for her family staying with her while she is at the hospital and to accompany her home.

Her life story of her loss of her first child during the war in holland and occupied by the Nazi troups. She was married two months before the war began and was forced to walk from holland to belguim as with many others. Giving birth in strange surroundings with the threat of bombs and being questioned by the German troups. Her beloved husband forced to endure hard labour far from her and his little boy. What brought him back to her unable to work was TB. Her beloved John died within four years of their marriage he was 28 years old and four months later her beloved blonde angel died .
Giving birth to another son but grieving for her baby and husband, a widow. With no money and no food and not able to buy coal to heat her small home. Cradling her sons with blankets to keep them warm and safe. Going without food herself to give to her children every day. Too proud to let anyone know that she was starving and cold.

Family intervened and a relative took her and the baby children in to stay with them.

Later another man was to grow and love her and accept her son and make him his own child. Two years later another son was born and a daughter.

My heart is still thinking of the courage of our elders that have endured the war. In our time the tragedy that happens all around us. The innocent caught in the cross fire of the governments that declare war.

I wish we take a moment and give thanks for all around us, and for the men and women that defend our country. To those that serve , we give thanks.
